The idea of this blog post came to me when I found out that BIZ Magazine and Zelist named my blog one of the 30 most influential fashion & beauty blogs in Romania. I don’t consider myself an online influencer and neither do some brands and PRs, as they called me irrelevant every time they had the occasion (Oh, the irony). However, I thought that there are plenty of beginner fashion/beauty bloggers that would appreciate any blogging tips from older bloggers, therefore this article is for them.
My blogging tips for beginner fashion/beauty bloggers
- Visual content is key!
- You have to focus on quality instead of quantity.
- Find your style.
- You need to constantly invest in your blog (blog domain, a clean theme, a good DSLR camera, 50 mm or/and 85 mm lenses, an appealing logo/header, backgrounds).
- Learn how to use Photoshop and Lightroom.
- Make sure you have a nice Facebook and Instagram feed.
- Always raise the bar.
- Don’t write positive reviews to flatter brands.
- If brands call you irrelevant, don’t feel down and prove them wrong.
- Build a brand around your blog.
- You don’t have to say yes to every PR that reaches to you.
- Don’t become obsessed with your blog stats.
- You don’t have to go to every single event you’re invited to.
- Don’t blog about things or brands you don’t identify yourself with.
- PRs will rarely admit that they have budget for their campaigns. Negociate!
- It’s OK to take breaks if you feel exhausted, unmotivated or you simply want a social media cleanse.
- Be patient, but don’t wait for miracles.
- Few people will compliment your work. That doesn’t mean you don’t do a good job.
- You are nothing without your readers so you should always respect them. Offer your readers high quality content, valuable and relevant information and honesty.
- And finally… Trust your guts and don’t explain yourself to anyone.
